Donation Not Discrimination Update

The Petition

Thank you to Stirling, Keele, York, Reading, LSE, Leicester, Liverpool Hope and UCLAN LGBT societies who have sent us thousands of completed petitions demanding a review of the homophobic donor selection criteria of the National Blood Service. If you held a Day of Action at your uni or college and collected signatures, please ensure you send us your completed petitions as soon as possible so that we can hand them in together to the Department of Health. We need as many as possible to show the strength of feeling on this issue.

If you would like to collect signatures at your uni or college in support of our campaign, please download a template petition here. Send in your completed petitions to LGBT Unit, NUS HQ, Centro 3, Mandela Street, London NW1 0DU.

European Campaign

A Spanish MEP has launched a campaign to ensure that the European Comission takes action against countries that prohibit gay and bisexual men from donating blood. Raül Romeva, a vice president of the Parliament’s Gay and Lesbian Rights Intergroup, has specifically denounced the UK and France, describing their policies as 'totally discriminatory'. For more information on this story, click here.

Please contact your MEP to ask them to support Romeva's campaign. You can find out who your MEP is here.
