Your role in a students’ union is first and foremost to lead students in campaigning and involvement within the union. It is about making the lives of students better, and enhancing their experience at university or college.
It is vital that we as NUS and you as students’ unions campaign and deliver change for your members. The key thing is that as a union you male sure you have the best chance to make that happen, and the best structures in place to allow effective decision making. That is why the role of trustees in your union is an important part of your organisation.
People will say that being a trustee is a backroom function and isn’t vital to student life, but we know that without organisation, and without effective decision making, good campaigning unions fail.
NUS is running two ‘Trustee Academies’ to give you the skills and knowledge of how best to work and help run your unions. They will allow you to explore the structures you have, and the role that you play as the leaders of your organisation.
During the course you will get an understanding of governance and trustee essentials, as well as looking at how to identify the key legal, financial and strategic responsibilities within a students’ union.
Trustees Academy (North) is happening on the 13th and 14th October in Nottingham.
Trustees Academy (South) is on the 16th and 17th October in Bournemouth:
I hope to see some of you there,
Cheers,
