| www.scotlandsfuture.com NUS Scotland’s new website for the parliamentary elections has been launched and praised across Scotland as an innovative campaign to lobby politicians and encourage students to register to vote. www.scotlandsfuture.com contains all NUS Scotland’s manifestos for the Parliamentary elections, information about how to get involved in the elections and our photo galleries of students holding whiteboards with their messages about voting and why they will engage in this year’s elections The website and the whole campaign have been praised in the Scottish Parliament. The motion below was submitted by Sandra White, MSP for Glasgow after she attended the launch of the Environment Manifesto at Strathclyde University: S2M-5517 Ms Sandra White (Glasgow) (SNP) : NUS Scotland Campaign— That the Parliament welcomes the campaign and website, www.scotlandsfuture.com, launched by NUS Scotland to promote increased participation by students in the upcoming elections, believing that awareness campaigns and public debates like the one set up by NUS Scotland serve to reignite interest in politics and stimulate debate on the issues concerning voters, which in turn leads to higher voter turnout at elections and thus increased democratic legitimacy. NUS Scotland receives official endorsement from Scotland’s Colleges NUS Scotland has spent the months since the launch of our Education Manifesto lobbying the education sector in Scotland around the policies contained in our manifestos for the parliamentary elections. The Association of Scotland’s Colleges (ASC), the representative body for all the colleges in Scotland has just launched its own prospectus for the elections, entitled Scotland’s Colleges, Forward Together. Within this prospectus, the ASC endorses our Education Manifesto and the policies contained within it. The text of the prospectus reads as follows: “However, above all else, Scotland’s Colleges are about students and the student experience...Scotland’s Colleges endorse the National Union of Students Scotland’s (NUS) education manifesto for the 2007 elections Students’ Lives Scotland’s Future.” This is a key victory for NUS Scotland, not only in demonstrating that our policies make sense to those within the education sector in Scotland, but because it significantly increases the lobbying power of our manifestos to ensure that our policies can become a reality. A full copy of the ASC Prospectus can be downloaded from their website, www.ascol.org.uk.
