Hello everyone, I know I have not updated my blog in a while but I will fill you in on the day-to-day life of NUS-USI.

This has been a busy few months as with everyone I know there is a sea between us but our issues are mostly the same. This year our time has been snatched by our priority campaign Admission impossible. NUS-USI stand side by side with England, Wales and Scotland in the fight against fees and the removal of the cap. We Launched this campaign a few months ago and received good media attention in NI. Our Campaign launch and office opening was a success and we invited back some ex officers to open our new offices in Belfast this raised media attention and we ended up on the lunchtime news.

We held a regional day out in Stormount NI Parliament buildings for all officers from both HE and FE sectors. We met with the parties and received a detailed presentation of the current situation in NI Assembly talks. We asked the parties for their support in the review of the top up fees and the impact, which is 16.7%, drop in applications in NI and 50% drop with students coming from the south to the North of Ireland to study. We received very good feedback from parties and MLAs and this once again hit the evening news.

Other issues, which I am working on now, include the FE Merger in NI, which are 16 colleges down to 6. I am also along with my Part Time exec working on FE SU development within this sector, which is quickly happening.
