| The Education and Skills Select Committee met on Monday 19 February to continue their inquiry into Higher Education, hearing from NUS President Gemma Tumelty and Vice President (Education) Wes Streeting and Professor Michael Arthur, Chair of the National Student Survey Steering Group and Vice Chancellor, Leeds University. The Committee asked questions about the effectiveness of the National Student Survey and on how student satisfaction could be better measured. NUS voiced concerns about how the satisfaction measures for joint honours students, part-time students, mature students, and those who dropped out of their courses. University students required a positive academic experience, sufficient contact hours with teachers, safe accommodation and access to support, she argued. Vice President (Education) Wes Streeting argued that a proper review of Aim Higher was needed in order to avoid complacency in the drive to widen participation.
